King Charles III has been crowned king of the United Kingdom.
The archbishop of Canterbury placed the solid-gold crown on his head in Westminster Abbey.
Cheers of “God save the king!” rang out in one of the most symbolic moments of the coronation, the country’s first in 70 years.
His wife, Queen Camilla, will also soon be crowned before 2,200 guests in a televised spectacle meetspower-projecting ritual with a generous dose of religion.

The royal event is being witnessed by hundreds of high-profile guests inside the abbey, as well as tens of thousands of well-wishers who have gathered in central London despite the rain.
The King has taken the Coronation Oath and became the first monarch to pray aloud at his coronation. In his prayer he asked to “be a blessing” to people “of every faith and conviction.”
